Kids, Grandkids, Sunshine, and Reptiles

Its been a while since my crew has been down to Florida so we decided that it would be a good idea to have a before-school vacation.  Last weekend the whole squad flew down from Minneapolis with a stop over in Chicago.  Grandma promised a treat at the airport 7-11 if there was good behavior in Chicago.   Unfortunately I was not specific when the seven year old picked out a $50 iTunes card.   Who even knew they carried those?   I was thinking more along the Slurpee line.

So started our fun weekend.  Friday morning we headed to Captain Jacks Airboat Rides and Animal Sanctuary in Everglade City.

The airboat ride was wild.  We had Captain Jacob who was about 20 years old and he drove like it.  Young guys and anything fast are a bad combination but so fun.  We saw alligators and lots of friendly raccoons and learned about mangroves.  It was very hot in the Everglades.   I needed a Grandma Slurpee.🍺

Saturday was deep sea fishing for Gary, Ted and Pierre.  A friend took them out for the day and Pierre even got to drive the boat.   Again it was very hot and they came back pretty red and tired but they caught some nice grouper.   Leigh and Landy and I spent the morning at the Cape Coral beach.

Sunday included a visit to The Waffle House.  This is a must do in Florida.   Almost as important as the beach.  And please don't ask me why.   It just is.   Then it was pool time to work off those waffles, eggs and hash browns.   We stuck close to home due to a huge threat of rain which didn't happen til dark.   Weatherpeople😫

Monday was our Fort Myers beach day and what a day.   Hot and sunny.  Ted started on the beers by 9 am.  So proud.  There was lots of swimming and sand.  Pierre somehow convinced his Uncle Ted to take him parasailing.  He kept giving him beer so that may have helped. The day was almost perfect except for a stingray or jellyfish who liked the looked of my ankle so stuck me good.   Extremely painful but in about an hour the burning was gone and the next day not even a mark.  Bucket list - check.

Life returned to normal Tuesday morning.   Gary scooted the kids back to the airport and I headed out to work.   Got home from work, ate a hotdog that rolled out of the frig and fell in bed.  Kids can be exhausting and hungry and loud and messy.   But it's worth the hugs and the sugar (kisses) and we can't wait to have them again.

I have some things coming up I want to share so welcome to my latest blog.  Hope you enjoy the ride.
